Andrea Cerisola

Andrea Cerisola currently resides in Mexico City with her husband and three kids. At present, besides creating her pixel portraits, she attempts to transmit Buddhist teachings through her art. She depicts recurrent themes such as impermanence, interconnection and how everything we do, think and act upon affects others. She believes in the importance of creating space between our thoughts, so we can respond rather than react to life’s events, and the faults of samsara, the endless cyclic existence, in which we remain, prisoners, until we can free ourselves from our disturbing emotions.

Andrea conveys these ideas using colourful geometric and playful patterns. She hopes her artwork can bring peace and reflection to those who own them. Though she is careful with detail, the pieces are designed to look good from afar, but also show imperfections upon closer examination. This is analogous to the unexamined life, which may seem perfect from the outside, but upon reflection, all faults and defects come to the surface.

Andrea works meticulously and painstakingly - mostly with acrylic on canvas, and sometimes with acrylic on wood.

Since graduating in 1993 from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, with a major in art history, she has participated in several exhibitions in Mexico City, Barcelona and Los Angeles. In 2017, she won one of three first prizes in a GIF contest at NM Contemporáneo Galería de Arte, Mexico.
