Richard Schmidbauer

From his studio in the Bavarian countryside, artist Richard Schmidbauer works with clients around the world, developing innovative and compelling design solutions. His skill set encompasses a range of techniques including, illustration, 3D design, shader design, graphic design and procedural art.

After obtaining a university degree in business economics and a further degree in 3D design, Richard developed his professional skills working at a studio. In 2015 he founded his freelance business, primarily working with startups and indie studios. His early briefs provided him with the opportunity to develop a variety of skills as they were challenging and artistically interesting projects requiring a broad range of aesthetic styles and design sensibilities.

“A deep curiosity and the constant intake of inspiration all around me informs all of my work. I look for interesting structure and detail everywhere. I really love strong design aesthetics, and that influences all that I do, as I try to recreate and reassemble those influences into an artistic vision. For example, when I am illustrating and drawing, I look for deep inks or strong colours. Not elaborate shading, but the maximum expression with as little detail as possible. I love drawing on paper with ink brushes. This certainly reflects into my digital work, as does my love for design, science and nature.”
