Claudia Piola
Claudia Piola resides in Ferrara, a city in the region of Emilia Romagna in the north-east of Italy. She is a graduate of the IUSVE Institute in Venice, where she studied science and techniques of graphic communication.
Natural and urban landscapes are her primary sources of inspiration. Claudia started to learn to draw by studying botanical illustrations, various flowers and leaves. These were the main protagonists of her early work. Once her artistic skills developed, she began incorporating animal subjects into her work, focusing on fishes and birds. When she started her career as an illustrator, she used to work solely with paper and watercolour. Today, Claudia prefers to create her artworks digitally, using the Procreate iPad app and an Apple Pencil.
Her work seeks to describe the beauty around her. Claudia says, “With my illustrations, I want to share the world that surrounds me. Using a simple style and basic lines and trying to engage who observes me and my artworks. I believe that drawing is only a matter of practice, and the most important aspect is the ability to imagine and summarise, removing the superfluous and encouraging the viewer to focus on life’s beauty and stories.”
Claudia works with a diverse roster of clients including Seattle-based kitchenware company Sur La Table. She is available for commission upon request.
