Gavin Gifford
Self-taught American artist Gavin Gifford thrives upon his ability to be stylistically diverse. This methodological freedom undoubtedly brings a unique vivacity to his dynamic body of work. Utilizing primarily pen and Prismacolor or Copic markers, Gifford often channels the energy of artists like John Kenn Mortensen and Will Terrell as he creates his own diverse and surreal compositions that run the gamut from traditional portraits to fan art.
Based in Springville, Utah, Gifford developed his fascination with art once he discovered that it could be an effective outlet for his imagination. His high school apprenticeship with local artist Mary Reeder proved both formative and transformational for his art, as it afforded Gifford the opportunity to experiment in the realm of watercolour. In addition to creating work in both freelance and commission-based capacities, Gifford also writes poetry as well as stories. He has even dabbled in theatrical acting.
