Moillo
Moillo, bending reality within the lines of cardboard.
“I’m a freelance illustrator based in Napier, Hawke’s Bay,
New Zealand.
I have a degree in Illustration BA (Hons) from the University of Westminster (Harrow School of Art) and a PG Diploma in Communication and Design from the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.
My work is drawn directly on cardboard. My style is bold, direct, real and a little rough around the edges. The cardboard texture is the base colour with black marker pens being the structural architecture. Then a minimal palette of spot marker colours is applied, and sometimes a hint of charcoal. The image is subsequently amended and adjusted in Adobe Photoshop.
I always retain the fresh and raw aesthetic as I love textures and original marks made in the moment. Moillo always uses recycled cardboard boxes found lying around, and I like to think outside the box too?!
My inspiration and catalyst is life - people, nature, sounds and music all inhabit the creative space.”
Moillo is represented by Sandra Morris Illustration, a New Zealand illustration agency and is a member of the Illustrators Australia community.
