Nicholas Rampasaud
Nicholas Rampasaud is a visual artist, illustrator, and writer. Originally from Long Island, NY, he currently resides in Queens. He joined the military after high school and proceeded to travel all over the world, learn, and train. While stationed and living in Japan for three years, he found himself seeking apprenticeship under several local Japanese tattoo artists and manga writers in Yokosuka. This practice allowed him to keep his creative skills fresh until he returned home to resume his artistic education. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in illustration from the School of Visual Arts and is currently pursuing his master’s degree.
Nicholas draws his inspiration from numerous artists, including comic book penciler Olivier Coipel, Kim Jung Gi, Zee Chin, James Zapata, Tomer Hanukah among others. He has participated in several art shows around the world, including the Spoke Art exhibition, Of Scales & Feathers, where his work was featured and sold next artists from Pixar, Cartoon Network, Marvel and more. His work has experience in a broad range of applications, and he has worked on a variety of projects including artwork for album/mixtape covers, murals, tattoo designs, storyboards, children’s book illustrations, fashion illustrations, logo and merchandise designs.
The majority of his personal work consists of clever illustrations based on childhood nostalgia, common cultural archetypes, and fan art. Although he prefers using digital techniques, most of his artwork is first drawn traditionally and then coloured digitally. As his creative process evolves, Nicholas seeks to combine references from various religions and mythologies to supplement a narrative describing his personal experiences in the military.
