Rafael Bertone
Rafael Bertone was born in Rosario, Argentina. In 2002 he relocated to Madrid, Spain where he currently works as an art director, illustrator and interdisciplinary artist. He expresses his eclectic aesthetic through realistic portraiture or grotesque graphics.
Rafael’s creative practice is fed by his encounters with ornamental motifs of indigenous art which spontaneously and naturally merge with his inner world. He finds inspiration in Occidental, pagan and playful imagery.
Social issues, consumerism and independent art occupy a central space in the artist’s discourse. His latest creations reflect his passion for skulls and masks, depicting both inner and outer features.
Rafael says, “A struggle between the greatest creative impulse that is the fear of death and the dehumanization we live in today.”
