Andrea Evan. (Andrea Evangelou) currently lives and works in Limassol, Cyprus. She exhibits her work in New York, Vienna, Florence, Athens and across Cyprus.
Her primary focus is figurative painting, choosing poses and faces that want to express something beyond mild emotions. Preferring to establish her work within a context of abstraction, Evan. immerses herself in the process of discovering what oil paint is capable of, how it can reflect textures and the illusion it has the ability to create. “I want the viewers’ satisfaction to be carried on to me, and the curiosity and emotion that created each painting to be carried off to them.”
A graduate of Florence’s Libera Accademia di Belle Arti, Evan.‘s inspiration comes not only from early painters such as Caravaggio, Egon Schiele, Henri Matisse but also from contemporary painters: Euan Uglow, Jenny Saville, Adam Lee and Lou Ros.
