Maura Allen
“The American West—real and romanticised—is the focus of my work; ranches, rodeos and vintage Main Street my stage. I start on location, looking directly into the sun. With details obscured, I seek out strong, iconic silhouettes—my way of telling the biggest story with the least amount of information. In my studio using techniques adapted from Warhol and Rauschenberg, I deconstruct my images into light and dark, creating original 2- and 3D-work on wood, glass and steel. I earned my BA from Stanford University and have been a black and white photographer for 40+ years. Featured in museums, corporate, and private collections, my work is shown and sold in galleries and by art consultants across the United States.”
