Lawrence W. Lee
Creating art that is both profoundly personal yet also confronts the viewer with a uniquely visceral quality, American artist Lawrence W. Lee works in both traditional and digital media to investigate the world around him. From the shamanistic figures conveyed in his earlier work to his more recent exploration of the crypto art scene, Lee continues to entice viewers of his work with his ability to challenge both visual conventions and expectations.
Based in Tucson, Arizona, Lee earned his BFA in Graphic Art in 1969 and subsequently completed his MFA the following year. He enjoyed the first solo showcase of his work in 1976 and has since seen the acclaim for his art spread around the globe. His recent focus has fallen on a series he has titled, “Winds of Change,” which pairs dramatic design elements with portrait tropes that cross cultural and ethnic barriers. In addition to individual exhibitions and gallery showcases, Lee enjoyed a year-long collaboration in 2016 with a professional ballet company that proved inspirational to his creative process.
