Yazmin Threadgate

 
 

Yazmin Threadgate is an Australian artist who aims to stimulate thought and evoke imagination through her art. Her creative practice expresses and reflects the psychological and physical experiences in life. She describes her work as “subjective, innovative and expressive.”

The Indigenous Cultures of Australia have profoundly shaped Yazmin’s artwork. “I was born and raised in the rural town of Nhulunbuy, located in remote North-East Arnhem Land (Northern Territory). I have been heavily influenced and completely fascinated by the beauty and depth of Australian Indigenous Culture. My art pays homage to the significance of Indigenous Culture in Australia, and the impact that has on me as an artist.”

Yazmin also finds inspiration in a range of artists including, Del Kathryn Barton, Frida Kahlo, Vincent Van Gogh, Jackson Pollock and Christo and Jeanne-Claude. She is particularly drawn to their subjective nature. 

Her work focusses on the complexity of the subconscious, psychological emotions, and worldly energies. She specialises in acrylic, watercolour and gouache techniques and prefers to work using a variety of mixed media. Her art combines video, audio, and interactive elements with a visual to create an individual experience for the viewer. 

She currently resides in a rural coastal town along the New South Wales Sapphire Coast. Her clients include domestic and international collectors. Yazmin has also produced large scale works for local schools.
