Niki Nicole Marko
Contemporary artist, Niki Marko divides her time between the south of Sweden and Costa del Sol in Andalusia, Spain, where the light and the atmosphere inspires her to paint. She creates fluid abstract paintings, ceramics and is available for portrait commissions. Describing her work, she says, “In my figurative paintings, there is speed, strong colours, and detailed portraits of humans and other creatures. A few years ago, I discovered Fluid Art, and since then, I am obsessed with this technique. The moment the colours flows onto the canvas in unexpected shapes and shades is something so wonderful! It is the innermost core of creation.”
Born in Stockholm, Sweden and as the daughter of an art lover and collector, she started visiting museums and appreciating great art at a very early age. Botticelli, Michelangelo, Édouard Manet, Picasso, Edward Hopper and Modigliani inspire her creative practice.
She prefers working in acrylic and clay, explaining “I have different periods. Sometimes I paint, and other times I do ceramics. I have painted figurative art like portraits for a long time, which I still love to do, but lately, I’m struck by abstract, pouring acrylics which has liberated a whole new side of my creativity.”
Niki is a trained architect with an academic background in the arts. She initially studied History of Arts at Stockholm University. Following her graduation, she travelled to Italy to study drawing, graphics and sculpture at the University of Venice. A few years later, Niki returned to Stockholm University to qualify as an architect. She began exhibiting her work in 2002 and has participated in shows in Costa del Sol, and Stockholm and Österlen, Sweden.
Her paintings can be found in private homes in Spain, Sweden and the UK.
Her clients include interior decorators who commission her paintings for restaurant projects.
